Whisper Transcription is an audio-to-text utility developed by Jordi Bruin for iOS and macOS. The app utilizes the Whisper model to convert audio files into text, offering both local on-device processing and cloud-based Assistant transcription. Local transcription requires an iPhone 13 or newer, or an iPad with an M-series chip, ensuring privacy for sensitive recordings. Users can share audio from apps like iMessage, WhatsApp, and Voice Memos directly into the app, or record new audio within it. Supported formats include mp3, wav, m4a, mp4, and mov. The app supports transcription in 100 languages with auto-detection capabilities. Additional features include AI-generated summaries and a chat interface to query long transcripts. Cloud transcription offers high speed and quality but requires a subscription, while local transcription is free after downloading the model. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled 24 hours before the period ends.
