Sono is a privacy-focused productivity tool designed for users who need accurate notes without cloud dependency. The app runs entirely on-device, utilizing local LLMs for transcription and AI features, ensuring user data never leaves the device unless explicitly shared via optional iCloud sync. Key capabilities include transcribing voice notes, meetings, lectures, and videos up to 8 hours long, as well as live transcription for up to 2 hours. It supports 99 languages and offers smart AI summaries and an interactive AI chat for rewriting or generating action items from transcripts. Users can organize recordings into collections, search within transcripts, and export content in multiple formats including TXT, PDF, MD, DOCX, and SRT. The interface includes widgets, shortcuts, and split-view support for iPad and Mac. While iOS background limitations require the app to remain open during active recording, Sono automatically resumes transcription if interrupted. A single network connection is only needed initially to download the necessary models.
