Russet is a privacy-focused AI assistant for iOS and macOS that prioritizes local processing. By default, it runs language models directly on the device using Apple Intelligence and MLX, ensuring chats remain offline and do not require an internet connection. Users can switch to cloud-based models by connecting their own OpenAI or OpenRouter API keys. The app offers flexible chat modes, including persona selection (e.g., Coding Partner, Study Buddy) and incognito mode. Key features include text summarization, translation, rewriting, and image/PDF analysis. Russet integrates with system data like calendar, contacts, and Health info for contextual queries, provided user permission is granted. Projects allow users to group related chats and files.
