Fluent is a macOS utility designed to integrate AI writing capabilities directly into your workflow via a Spotlight-like Smart Panel. It operates universally across applications, allowing users to perform actions such as grammar correction, translation, email drafting, social media post creation, and key point extraction without leaving their current context.

The tool distinguishes itself by offering flexibility in AI model selection. Users can utilize their own API keys for cloud providers like OpenAI, Gemini, and OpenRouter, accessing over 320 models through OpenRouter. Additionally, Fluent supports dozens of local AI models that can be downloaded and run directly on the Mac, enabling fully offline functionality and enhanced data privacy with zero telemetry collection. Cloud keys are stored securely in the Mac’s Keychain.

Key features include customizable hotkeys, unlimited custom actions (in the Unlocked version), and an always-on-screen assistant mode with nine snap points. The Smart Panel supports Markdown rendering and image preview. While the base app is free, advanced features such as unlimited custom actions, specific default actions, image processing, and custom variables require the Unlocked version.
